What Does Direct Primary Care Look Like?

At a Direct Primary Care (DPC) clinic, every patient interaction is centered on convenience, access, and personalized care. Here’s what a typical day of care might look like:

A busy professional wakes up with a sore throat, congestion, and fatigue. Instead of struggling to get a same-day appointment or waiting at an urgent care, they simply message their DPC doctor through the secure app. Within the hour, they’re on a video call discussing symptoms. The doctor offers guidance, calls in medication if needed, and schedules a follow-up—no copays, no surprise bills.

Later, a patient managing Type 2 diabetes calls ahead and schedules a routine check-up. When they arrive, there’s no waiting room crowd, just a warm greeting and a 45-minute appointment where they can dive into blood sugar trends, nutrition goals, and medication adjustments. Together, they review lab results and refine the care plan. Because the doctor isn’t rushed, there’s time to talk about sleep, stress, and lifestyle—supporting the whole person, not just the condition.

Procedures and Specialty Services

Many people worry that DPC isn’t able to offer more advanced services. That isn’t the case at Trailhead Clinics. Our care extends beyond general family medicine to include in-house procedures and specialty services often not covered in traditional insurance plans. Members can receive wound care, skin biopsies, wart removal, and joint injections—all with little or no out-of-pocket cost. Services like laceration repair, abscess drainage, and even casting and splinting are performed onsite, keeping urgent care visits to a minimum. Women’s health and pediatric services are also covered, including well-woman exams, family planning, childhood vaccinations at wholesale, and sports physicals—supporting the health of the entire family at every stage.

Diagnostics and Imaging

Trailhead Clinics also offers access to diagnostic imaging and lab testing at significantly reduced rates. Patients can get X-rays, mammograms, ultrasounds, and blood panels like Vitamin D and Hemoglobin A1c at a fraction of the traditional cost. Additional services, such as colonoscopies, PRP injections, and vasectomies are available on-site at our clinics. and Osteopathic manipulation is available at our Glenwood Springs office.
